Hi, I’m Kate – the creator behind Kate’s Oddities.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been captivated by the beauty of nature, especially animals. Art has always been my outlet — a way to express myself and explore colour, texture, and creativity. While I’m a qualified hairdresser and makeup artist, I never felt truly fulfilled pursuing those paths full-time.
About six years ago, I came across butterfly frames and was instantly hooked. My curiosity quickly grew into a deep fascination, and I found myself diving headfirst into the worlds of entomology and taxidermy. Since then, I’ve been dedicated to learning the craft, constantly experimenting, refining my skills, and pushing myself to grow and evolve creatively.
Through Kate’s Oddities, I create and sell a range of unique pieces — from framed insects and decorative domes to ethically sourced skulls, all often with a twist of horror. I also specialise in needle felt portraits, creating everything from adorable animals and pet portraits to pop culture characters. Whether it’s Bambi and Dumbo or horror icons like Art the Clown (Terrifier), Pennywise (IT), or Valak (The Nun), I love bringing a wide range of subjects to life through texture, detail, and imagination.
